Beirut Nightmares— Book Design
Student Project at the American University of Beirut
"Kawabis Beirut" by Ghada Samman which is translated to "Beirut Nightmares" tells the story of a woman who gets trapped inside her building during the Lebanese war for 2 weeks, where she endures a series of nightmares, on which are sometimes hallucinations, at other times actual nightmares, and finally harsh realities.
I decided to follow the idea of having the building constantly throughout my book during the day and during the night to emphasize on the idea that the narrator is trapped in the same building.
I also used my arabic typography as a visual element trapped inside the building until the very last page where it got liberated out of the building.
